Unlike most vet hospitals in the area, American Heritage Animal Hospital is NOT owned by a corporation. Rather, it is a privately owned small business of which Dr. Cat is the sole owner. This means, there are no corporate dictated protocols, no frequently rotating doctors, and no hurried in-and-out medicine. You become part of the AHAH family and Dr. Cat and our staff know you and your pet personally. We truly love our patients and want them to live long, healthy lives.
American Heritage Animal Hospital is a privately owned, full service small animal veterinary hospital at 3475 Stone Mountain Highway in Snellville, Georgia. We treat dogs and cats across Snellville and Gwinnett County. Dr. Cat McGinnis owns the practice and sees patients Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 8am to 6pm, and Saturday mornings, 8am to noon. We are always accepting new clients.
Because your dog’s history stops living in a file and starts living in someone’s head. Dr. Cat remembers that your dog had back pain a couple years ago, that your cat hates the carrier but tolerates the towel, that last year’s bloodwork was borderline and worth watching. Because we are independently owned, nobody in a board room determines our recommendations. Dr. Cat does. Every pet is different, every family has different priorities, and every treatment plan is tailored to both.

Every diagnostic and treatment recommended will be explained simply and clearly so that owners can make informed decisions about their pet’s care. Yes. Dr. Cat McGinnis is the president of Southern Style Great Dane Rescue and has spent years working with Great Danes and with Great Dane rescues in the southeast, and she knows the breed’s specific medical needs and the conditions they are predisposed to. Bloat, cardiac issues, joint problems, and the anesthetic considerations that come with a hundred-and-forty-pound patient.
Danes are a big part of who we are here. Several of our patients came through rescue and foster, and some of them never left.

We are an appointment only practice, which is how we keep on schedule and give every pet a full slot instead of a rushed one.
New clients leave a deposit when booking which is applied toward your first visit exam fee. This deposit holds your slot and is paid at the time you schedule your appointment. It is not refundable if the appointment is missed.
Walk-ins are seen if the schedule allows, with a walk-in fee.
Free drop-off for wellness exams and vaccines, for current clients is available. However, if your pet is sick or injured, we need you there so Dr. Cat can walk you through what she finds and the treatment recommendations. Severe emergencies will be referred to a nearby emergency hospital that is equipped to deal with these situations.
