In-house lab testing

Our in-house lab handles heartworm and tick disease testing, Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS testing, complete blood counts, and chemistry profiles for liver, kidneys, electrolytes and more. For specialized tests, we also send to external labs: fecal diagnostic panels, health screens, urinalysis, thyroid testing, medication level monitoring, and cytology and histopathology for evaluating tumors.

Digital x-ray

Digital radiology lets us see the size, shape and position of your pet’s internal organs and bones without surgery. It can reveal a fractured bone, a tumor, an enlarged heart, or a foreign object stuck in the stomach or intestines. Our digital system produces clear images instantly, and they can be emailed straight to owners, specialists or radiology reviewers when a second opinion is needed.

Ultrasound

For a closer look at internal organs and body cavities, we partner with Dr. McCown of Atlanta Mobile Veterinary Specialists to offer ultrasound. This is a procedure scheduled by appointment and is used for a more detailed evaluation of internal organs such as the heart, stomach, liver, kidneys, intestines etc. Ultrasound appointments are scheduled in advance, and fees depend on the type of ultrasound performed (cardiac vs. abdominal).

Blood allergy testing

Pets get allergies too, whether from fleas, pollen, grass, dust or something in their diet. Skin testing is the most accurate method but can be expensive. American Heritage offers blood allergy testing as a more affordable option, slightly less precise but far easier on the budget. This testing can be used to guide environmental management of allergens or develop allergy injections for the pet.
