Young pets need a series of vaccines to protect them from deadly diseases like parvovirus and distemper. We recommend visits at 6, 9, 12 and 16 weeks of age. At each puppy or kitten visit your pet gets a full exam by the doctor, a fecal check for intestinal parasites (with deworming if needed), and advice on feeding, training and any conditions their breed is prone to.
Every new puppy or kitten also goes home with a starter kit: informational pamphlets, a pet health record and helpful brochures. Puppies get a free sample of heartworm and flea prevention. Dr. Cat will talk through spaying and neutering at these visits too.
We recommend pet insurance for all pets, but especially for young puppies and kittens that tend to get into trouble eating things they shouldn’t, wounding themselves with puppy shenanigans, kittens playing with and ingesting strings, etc. We recommended Lemonade Pet Insurance as a company that provides various plans to meet any budget.
Training is also important for young puppies and we are happy to discuss which type of training is best for your puppy’s situation and personality.
Every dog that comes in for an annual exam and vaccines leaves with a personalized pet ID card. It carries your dog’s photo and every vaccine date, so you can hand it to the groomer or boarding kennel as proof of vaccination, and check at a glance when the next one is due. No other practice in Snellville does this.
Parasites are in every environment, and your pet can pick them up without you ever seeing it happen. Dog parks and daycare facilities are common sources. Regular fecal checks and deworming matter, because different parasites require different deworming medications, and over-the-counter dewormers do not treat all of them. Dr. Cat will recommend the right one for your pet.
American Heritage Animal Hospital builds each pet’s vaccine schedule around that pet, not around a corporate template. You will never get the cookie-cutter protocol you would at a chain hospital. Because we are independently owned, Dr. Cat decides what your pet actually needs, based on age, lifestyle and risk.
